About Halo
Halo is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser, which means it emits ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to target the upper and lower layers of your skin. (1) Ablative laser treatments remove the outermost layer of your skin to address superficial damage, such as fine lines or enlarged pores. Non-ablative treatments heat the underlying layers of your tissue to stimulate collagen production, address deeper sun damage, or correct underlying pigmentation concerns. (2) By combining both, Halo can comprehensively transform your skin, leaving you with a radiant, glowing complexion.

Halo offers several notable benefits, such as:

Personal Consultation
Before scheduling your Halo treatment, you will need to attend a personal consultation at our San Diego office. During this consultation, your specialist will meet with you individually to explain what Halo is, what this treatment entails, and its benefits and limitations. They will ask you a series of questions about your medical history, skin concerns, and treatment goals, as well as perform a physical evaluation to assess your skin’s quality.
Your specialist will use these shared details to confirm whether Halo is right for you and create your treatment plan.
If you are ready to schedule this consultation, please contact us online. If you have any questions or would prefer scheduling over the phone, please call our office at (858) 667-7717.
Preparation
Your specialist will provide you with a set of detailed instructions to help you prepare your skin. These instructions are straightforward, but we still expect you to follow each one for the best results. Your specialist may direct you to:
- Adjust your skincare routine to avoid harsh or irritating products that can disrupt your skin’s barrier function.
- Wear the proper sun protection when leaving the house.
- Avoid direct or excessive sun exposure, as well as tanning.
- Keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water and wearing moisturizer.
- If you are receiving a more extensive treatment, arrange any time away from your commitments you may need.
- Arrive at your appointment with clean skin that is free from makeup or products.
- Remove any facial jewelry beforehand.
Your specialist will provide you with any additional information during your consultation.
Procedure
Our specialists perform Halo in our office using local anesthesia. Each treatment takes less than 60 minutes, with the exact duration depending on the size of the treatment area. Your specialist will first cleanse your skin before they apply a topical anesthetic to enhance your comfort. If you are more sensitive to pain or discomfort, you can discuss other numbing options during your consultation.
Your specialist will provide you with eye protection to wear during the treatment before using a handheld device on the treatment area. As they pass the device over your skin, it will emit two different wavelength frequencies to address both superficial and underlying skin concerns. One wavelength will be ablative, removing the outermost layer of your skin to address concerns such as uneven skin texturing, enlarged pores, and acne scars. (3) The other wavelength will heat the thickest layer of your skin to stimulate the production of new collagen, address deeper sun damage, correct pigmentation issues, and more.
Your specialist will continue passing the device over your skin until they have addressed the treatment area evenly. From there, they will apply a mesh dressing and moisturizing ointment to calm and protect your skin.
Recovery
After undergoing Halo, it is common to experience mild redness, swelling, and tenderness around the treated areas. These effects are temporary and will gradually subside on their own, but you may manage them using a cold compress and over-the-counter medications. You may return to your daily activities after allowing your skin to heal for several days. However, you may need to continue refraining from using harsh skin products and makeup. You will also need to return to our office throughout your recovery to ensure your skin heals as expected.
Your specialist will give you a set of recovery instructions after your treatment. These guidelines will help you manage potential side effects, reintegrate daily products into your routine, and care for your skin as it heals.
Results
Once your skin fully recovers, you will be able to enjoy the initial results of your Halo treatment. Your skin will appear smoother, clearer, and more radiant overall as Halo softens and reduces any blemishes, textural irregularities, and visible signs of aging. You may also notice additional improvements in your skin’s appearance and firmness as your collagen levels continue to increase with time.
Because Halo addresses both superficial and underlying skin concerns, you will experience both immediate and gradual results. The effects of Halo are long-lasting, with many of our patients experiencing their enhancements for months. It is important to note that while you can see significant improvements after just one treatment session, most patients will benefit from a series of spaced-out treatments.
